Juvenile Matters
Unfortunately, there are times that our children find themselves in need of attorneys as well. Like adult criminal cases, sometimes these cases start when your son or daughter has been arrested. But other times it's not as clear and you may simply get notice from the Department of Juvenile Services that you and your child need to attend a meeting with the Department or to an Initial Appearance before a Judge or Magistrate in Court.
In either event, the attorneys at the Law Office of Alan L. Winik, LLC are here to answer your questions and explain the process, which at times can be even more confusing than the adult criminal justice system. The Juvenile justice system can be even more difficult to navigate than the adult system, as the due process procedures are different, and the language is not the same. For example, juveniles are not “found guilty”, but they can be “adjudicated delinquent”; juveniles are not “incarcerated”, but they can be “sheltered" to a juvenile detention facility.
It is important that you have an attorney with experience in the Juvenile justice system. Not only to explain the process to you and your family but to make sure that someone is standing next to your child when facing a Judge. Alan will be in your child’s corner.
If your child has been charged, or you have been contacted by the Department, contact us immediately.
